After the successful trials of 4 BUSAF bodied Guy Victory-Js (G1-4), Kowloon Motor Bus ("KMB") introduced a new model - Leyland Victory Mk2 Series 2 (Leyland Victory-2) front-engined double-decker. The first of the buses was registered as BY 8415 in May 1979 and KMB allocated G5 as the fleet number.
During 1979-83 there were totally 540 Leyland Victory-2s joint the fleet. They were purchased in four orders of 152, 125, 65 and 200 (2 re-sold to New Lantao Bus). All the buses were bodied by Walter Alexander, but there were slightly differences on their appearances among the 4 batches. The most significant difference was the height of the windscreen. The earlier batches received shallow windscreens, while the later buses were equiped with a deeper one. Among the Victory-2s, CM 3879 was an experimental air-conditioned bus originally installed with 2+2 high-back seats. The air-conditioned unit was then removed and the bus was re-installed with normal seats. KMB allocated G544 as the fleet number of the bus. Last Leyland Victory-2s were withdrawn from service on March 31, 1998. Some of them were converted to Training Buses. Please click on the photographs below for the enlarged version. |
